The Big Kid

It's funny that I call her that because she's not even in the "regular" VBS. The preschool is for worker's kids only. But, she is our big kid and she has had a blast this week. She did say this morning... "Mama I'm ready to get dressed, but I don't want to wear my shirt." It is tradition at FBCW VBS (that's a lot of letters) to wear your shirt everyday which makes for LOTS of laundry but it's fun to look out and see everyone in lime green. No amount of coaxing would work, although I didn't try very hard so she's wearing her new ice cream shirt. Maybe we'll get some tomorrow in green.
Learning the Bible story. How convenient that Omi is her teacher. Amber does the crafts and Mission video, but I missed those today.
Avery's favorite part of VBS! Not very spirtual, but quite yummy! :)
This is where Avery and Omi spend half of the opening and closing assembly - out in the hall! Avery is scared of all the loud talking so they get as far away as possible.

Dancing to the closing assembly songs.

We're in the last stretch

on so many levels. This morning when Reagan woke up her fever was so much better, but she had a rash all over her head and torso. So I called the doctor again and she said that means she has the Roseola Virus. She'll run an extremely high fever for a few days and then have a rash. Once the rash comes she is no longer contagious. You could tell she felt much better so we went over to VBS for a while. Her teacher was thrilled (really) and I was able to get some pictures of her actually attending VBS.
Goin' for a walk.
Sno cones are a BIG deal at our VBS!

Not fair!

This is how Reagan spent VBS this morning. Monday she was running a fever and after many unpleasant tests the doctor determined that she has a fever virus... This means that she runs a really high fever and is contagious, but besides sleeping more than usual she will act fairly normal. OR she's just having a really hard time teething (she has some new ones) which will look the same as the virus.

She was wondering where her sister was all morning. Well, her sister was having a blast next door. Hopefully I will get some pictures of her during her activities this week and hopefully Reagan will feel better soon.

(Apparently she doesn't know that she's a staff kid and is not allowed to get sick during the week of VBS!!! :) )

Let's Build Something

The only way I could get Avery to sleep after she woke up at 2:30 this morning was to tell her that she was going to Lowe's to build something with Daddy the next day and she needed her sleep. After that, I didn't hear a peep. She had a blast and is so proud of her tape measure. I'm so thankful that she has such a great dad.

My heart hurts

for a family I don't even know. Most of you know how much I absolutely love Avery's school. I was able to work there this past year and it is a place where you feel like you are friends with everyone even if you don't actually know them. Yesterday I learned about a family who has an 8 year old, a 5 year old and a daughter Reagan's age. The youngest daughter was a twin, but they lost her brother at birth. On Wednesday this family suffered a horrible accident. In the family driveway somehow the car was not put in park and it ran over the mom and the youngest daughter. The little girl was killed and the mom who was 7 months pregnant was rushed to the hospital to have an emergency c-section. I am told that the 5 year old - just one year older than Avery - watched the entire thing from the curb and was yelling for help because her Mommy was hurt. What devastation!

I have looked around my house this morning and where I am usually frustrated and discouraged, I am grateful for the messes. I am thankful for the sink full of sippy cups and the baskets full of laundry. I'm ok with yet another night where sleep was interrupted by a crying child. I simply cannot imagine the alternative.
Please join me in praying for this family who now has to take care of a premie in the hospital as well as plan a funeral for a coffin much too small. Join me in thanking God for the kids in your life - your own or others. Enjoy the messes and the sloppy kisses and the songs sang at top volume in the backseat. I pray that God helps me to keep this perspective and that my "normal" is a little different than it was yesterday morning.

Way to Go Avery!!!

Avery received her pin for AWANA Sunday night. She earned the "Cubbie Bear" for finishing her book and she won the "Spirit Award" for her class. Her teacher was so complimentary even though part of winning the award was that she was the most spirited and made things "fun". We all know that can be a really good thing... or not. She was so proud and we were proud of her. It's amazing the things she has learned this year from school and church. I know there are times that our expectations are not realistic - sometimes too high and sometimes not high enough. It's hard charting this job called parenting. She takes being the "guinea pig" like a pro. She is always quick to forgive and to give hugs and kisses. I am so proud of the person she is becoming. It's going to be a great summer!
